Profound Changes

turtle As if dual speccing, stable recall, and unlimited ammo were not enough changes to make your head spin, even more changes for the next big patch are tenatively in place. Aside from many new talent changes, there are several tenacity related changes worth discussing.

The biggest one is that thunderstomp is now being given to all tenacity pets. This, of course, is a game changer. Up until now, most tanking has been done by our gorilla friends, due to the overwhelming advantage of thunderstomp. With this talent in the hands of all our tenacious friends, the playing field becomes wide open. At this point, any pet becomes a viable main tank. The Gorilla recieves a spell related move that does hint at being very useful. Personally, this makes a strong case for the turtle, who’s defensive Shell Shield is now very attractive.

We will have to have some thought and discussion on the pros and cons of the various pet special moves!

Secondly, Roar of Sacrifice now only applies to the Hunter. Well, it couldnt be all good. This of course robs us of some valuable utility, not to mention invalidating some extremely useful macros šŸ˜¦

Thirdly, Rhino’s stampede will affect only one target and add a bleed. Talk about a reduction in fun factor. Who can forget BRK’s rhino bowling movie?! Let’s hope this one doesn’t go through.

There’s my initial thoughts on the matter, I’d love to hear yours

  1. I posted a bit about the Thunderstomp change on my blog,

I believe Turtles, Crocs and Gorillas will be the three main competitors when it comes to tanking. Gorilla will mostly be aimed at off tanking trash I think as all(?) bosses are immune against silence.

  2. I’m all for getting a turtle, but I’ve no stable slots left šŸ˜¦

  3. Panzer? With Thunderstomp? I think I need to change my underwear.

This is a massive change, and makes me even more dedicated to taking that second spec-space and making a genuine ‘tanking’ build. I fully intend to see if, with the new changes, a hunter can be a full-on MT class for instances, if not for lower-level raids. I somehow don’t see my turtle ever MTing Patchwerk (although I do wonder if a pet would be an effective eater-of-Hated… hmm) but I’m willing to bet that a tank-specced hunter could easily handle… well… heck. Look at the feats here and that’ll say everything. šŸ˜€

And let me be honest: I hate my gorilla. I love his thunderstomp and his aggro-holding, but I hate him in general; he’s ugly. šŸ˜¦ I’m more than happy to open up that stable slot for a different Tenacity pet of some shake. Maybe I’ll consider a nice worm for my BM build…

  4. Kurasu, your pet can’t eat hateful blows on Patchwerk, they can’t be targeted by that ability. I’ve tried =(
